Why the butterfly?

The story begins with Betty, mother of twelve, and the quiet force behind a bustling household. Among her children was Patricia Gonzalez, our co-founder and the youngest of the dozen.

Betty’s life was a study in contrast: she earned a science degree during the Great Depression and worked in a hospital lab, defying societal norms. But when she married a thoracic surgeon, she stepped away from her career to raise twelve children. Her contributions were immense, yet often seemed invisible at that time.

Still, Betty led. She volunteered, organized, mentored, and inspired. And she left a signature mark on every note to her children: a monarch butterfly. It was her symbol of transformation, endurance, and beauty and achieving amazing outcomes against all odds. That butterfly became more than a signature. It became a legacy.

Our name is both a tribute and a metaphor. It honors Betty’s enduring influence and reflects our belief that mothers are not confined by their roles—they are leaders, changemakers, and architects of the future. Like the monarch butterfly, executive mothers embody resilience, boldness, and the power to transform.

Momarc was co-founded by Patti Phillips and Patricia Gonzalez, two former executives turned coaches who shared a conviction that executive moms needed—and deserved—more support. Together, they combined their perspectives, values, and expertise to build Momarc: a company committed to proving that motherhood fuels leadership, and that the voices of executive moms are essential to shaping the future of business and society.
